Comments: We chose this topic because we had several new books on pets. Everyone could relate to having or caring for a pet. We limited comments from the students who had dogs and cats. We took a few comments from students who had unique pets.

Comments: We used this topic to highlight some new books on Indians and particularly the one on the Buffalo and the Indians. There are over 500 tribes of American Indians. We talked about the Navajo language as one that has no alphabet and made history with the unbreakable code during WWII. Fifth grade has a unit on Indians.
