Title: Dangerous Book for Boys & Daring book for Girls
Author: Iggulden & Peskowitz
Topic: Fun things to do
Grade: 4-6th
Comments: There is a little bit of everything in these books. Tying knots, secret codes, how to write a ghost story, what books every boy or girl should read. There are probably hundreds of ideas of things to do. We went through about 20-25 things that were in these books. When we finished sharing these two books with the older students, there where 10 boys and 10 girls on hold for them. They loved them and found them very interesting.
Title: The Dark, Dark, Night
Author: Christina Butler
Topic: Being afraid
Grade: K-3rd
Comments: Frog has woken up from hibernating. He says “hello” to all of his friends and by the time he gets ready to go home to his pond, it is dark. As he stretches out to leap into his pond he sees a large and scary monster coming out of the reeds. He runs back to his friends and one by one they go with him to see this scary monster. With each additional friend that comes with him the monster is getting bigger. In the end they discover that it is just their shadows that look like a scary monster.-----After we read this book we talked to the students about things that seemed scary until we knew what they really were, and then we were not frightened by them anymore.
