Recommended Read-a-Ioud or Book-talk books:
Title: "I Saw an Ant on the Railroad Tracks" & "I Saw an Ant in the Parking Lot" Author: Joshua Prince
Topic: Rhyming Books
Grades: K-3rd
Comments: Fun Book, encouraged students to write a poem all rhyming with 1 word. Title: "George Crum and the Saratoga Chip"
Author: Gaylia Taylor
Topic: The invention of potato chips & black history Grades: 4-6
Comments: Covered the cover of the book, and had the students guess what George Crum invented as we read the book. (Could be a good PAIR & SHARE---we were also going to talk about other black inventors, but ran out of time.)
Pair and Share Topic:
Titles/Authors used: She1 Silverstein, "Runny Babbit" & "Who wants a cheap Rhinoceros?"
Comments: Showed all of his books that we had in the Library and where to find them, and talked about some interesting facts about Shel Silverstein. Read "Rhino" to the younger students and "Runny" to the older students---we picked out 3-4 poems (Spoonerisms), and had the students untangle the poems with us. They loved this.
