Silver Crest Memorial Day Display

Memorial Day at Silver Crest Elementary.

 

For Memorial Day we wanted to talk to our classes about the meaning and origin of Memorial Day.

We did that and read the book “The Wall” by Eve Bunting.  We displayed books about the different wars that the United States has been involved in,

but we also wanted to give it a personal touch.  We asked the teachers to bring a picture of a family member who had served in the military to display in the library.

Only one teacher brought something in, so the rest of the photographs are our family members.  We thought it really added to the display.  We had some great discussions

with our students and we think it helped them gain a better understanding of Memorial Day, and hopefully a greater appreciation for the men and women in the military who have served our country.
