Altara

Title:          How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Author:      Dr. Seuss
Topic:        Christmas
Grade:       All

Comments:  Each year at Altara, we have the tradition of reading the book, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas".  We dress one of the students up as the Grinch with the green hair, the santy claus suit and the santy claus hat. He/she proceeds to read the part of the Grinch each time the Grinch has dialogue in the book. The kids love it and look forward to reading it each year.

Title:        The Polar Express
Author:     Chris Van Allsburg
Topic:       Christmas
Grade:      2nd - 6th

Comments:  We begin by asking if their is anyone who has not read the book or seen the movie of "The Polar Express".  We then tell them that we have a special treat for them that has something to do with the book.  We see if they can guess what it is.  More often than not they come up with the silver bell which is the first gift of Christmas in this story.  We pass out a little hershey's chocolate bell to each one of them and let them eat it while we listen to the book on CD.
