Title: “My Many Colored Days”
Author: Dr. Seuss Topic: Moods and Emotions
Grades: All
Comments: This is a fun and not so well known Dr. Seuss book. It is written in his traditional and playful rhythmic form. It is a book about emotions and feelings. Our students loved the book and the illustrations. An added note, this book was written by Dr. Seuss, but was posthumously published. A letter that was found with the book stated Dr. Seuss was looking for the right illustrator before publishing the book. Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher, a husband and wife team, was eventually chosen to illustrate the book.
Title: “When Charlie McButton Lost Power”

Comments: Charlie McButton is devastated when the power goes out. His world is ruined until he realizes that he can have fun without power. After a fight with his younger sister over batteries, he finds that his younger sister is actually quite nice. He and his little sister begin to play hide-and-go-seek, build forts, and pretend to be wizards. The loss of power is a really good thing.
