Title: Christmas in the Trenches
Author: John McCutcheon
Topic: A WWI Veteran tells his grandson of his experiences in 1914, when British and German soldiers declared a truce from fighting to celebrate Christmas together.
Grades: 4-6
Comments: Although the story is true, the characters in it are fictional; I liked the story because it was true and the students were fascinated that it was a true event also. It also “tested” them on how much they knew of WWI, so it gives them a bit of a history lesson also.
Title: A You Grumpy Santa?
Author: Gregg & Evan Spiridellis
Topic: Santa Story
Grades: K-2
Comments: The lower grade students like this rhyming story about Santa. It tells how cookies help Santa become less grumpy.
