Author : Louis Sachar
Topic: Stories about students and teachers from a very different school. Read first chapter which was about the strange teacher, Mrs. Gorf.
Grades: 3-6
Comments:This is not a new book, but many students are not familiar with it. The short chapters, around 2 and a half pages, help slower readers not feel overwhelmed with a chapter book.
Title:Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum
Author : Lisa Wheeler
Topic: Variety of animals get stuck in gum; rhyming story.
Grades: Pre, K, 1, 2
Comments: Teacher points out rhyming patterns; children keep count of number of things that get stuck; funny, well illustrated. Hold attention since they can relate to topic.
